As it was incorporated into Georgia in 1821, Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, is the second oldest city in the metro Atlanta area. It was named after a commander in the War of 1812, Captain James Lawrence. The city of Lawrenceville is 13.1 square miles in area, and the housing density is 591 houses per square mile.
